Low cost acquisition for SME's & Charities.
I’ve been tinkering around to build an AI powered email marketing workflow, sending emails at scale but personalised on the individual level.
- Project Overview
I supported NTU’s Knowledge Exchange team to strengthen local SMEs’ scaling capabilities, improve their operational efficiency, and boost their resilience through Generative AI. To do this, I designed and delivered accessible, jargon-free training sessions tailored to each business’s context and needs, encouraging practical discussion and hands-on learning.
Today, participating SMEs benefit from clear, actionable guidance and resources that empower them to adopt generative AI effectively and ethically. NTU’s KED team has an engaging, scalable training approach that builds lasting relationships with local businesses and supports the university’s civic impact agenda.
- About the clients
Email marketing has a very high average ROI, with figures ranging from £36 to £44 for every £1 spent.
Email marketing has previously been very time consuming, but AI has opened this channel up for companies who may not previously have possessed the headcount or budget. I’ve been working with several SME’s and a CIO on this.
- The Solution
Automation with human oversight.
The solution was to build automations to simplify some of the setup (mailbox creation etc) whilst still keeping the human in the loop for more technical tasks like SPF/DKIM/DMARC setup and DNS administration.
This resulted in a much lower setup time so that the focus could remain on copywriting.
- The Impact
Low cost high volume email marketing, open rates 60%>.
The system is still evolving but so far open rates have been >60% and reply rates >5%.
